Hello there Empty
PostSubject: Hello there   Hello there EmptyFri 03 Aug 2012, 22:09

Hi there,
I'm Larry, living in Wexford, Ireland. I have a long long history with the retro Renault side of diamond life having owned countless R19s of which I still have 3, 2 16V Cabriolets, one 1.4 Saloon PH2 and a modest little 96 Clio, having taken the 2 convertibles out of action to rebuild one and sadly scrap one, decided on not driving the saloon as its a rare one with low mileage and having become disheartened with the money pit that became the Clio i decided I needed something new (er)...

I for one have always loved the Laguna II, I know some of them were shoddily built but that cant turn me off them, theyre one of the most fantastic looking modern cars around and talk about comfort... Long story short, the other day I finally did it, I got me a 01 Laguna II 1.8 16V Dynamique in blue, ideally I wanted silver but one came along for the right price in blue and I have to say, I love driving it, what a beautiful car and ideal for a slightly shorter guy like me.

I got it for 500 euro which at a guess I would say is maybe 450 pound or so, has all the usual goodies you would expect and not too much wrong with her, she had a t-belt at 52k and she is now on 62k, my gripe list is as follows...

Outside temp reads 45+ degrees, and im in ireland
ABS warning light
Needs service
Tracking and balancing neding doing
Noisy fan (the one up by the rearview mirror)
Busted pas side front window reg
Busted hazard switch
A dent in the rear drivers side door

Thats about it really so I'm happy enough, looking forward to learning a hell of a lot from other Lag owners as I've never owned a post 196 Renault and the Lag is a whole different ball game than I'm used to.

Good to meet you
Edit: Incidentally I see the site is still listed as under construction, I'd be glad to help with any headers etc you need doing, thats kinda what I do, ex web designer over here

Hi and welcome to the site and thank you for joining.

We are a good bunch (not many atm) and I hope others make you feel welcome.

I am glad to you like your Laguna they are very nice cars to drive and very comfy as well.

Oh about the header I only say that bit cause like the Buyers Guide is still under construction and all that the main header isn't and thank you for offering help I could make you Moderator of your area if you wanted and some other pages. I am currently looking for people that will help out on website but for free I'm afraid as this isn't a profit website and has cost me quite a bit of money to get this website started.
When you have time please post your pride and joy in the Members Cars area and any other areas where you need help or just have a general chat about anything and thank you again for joining.

It's a 2.0 dCi suppose to be the best Diesel engine as it has a chain belt and not much goes wrong with them I have been told by an expert that works for Renault.

i would tend to agree, chain is where its at, tbh i have no idea why any company would use a belt anymore really, must have a good look around my one tomorrow and get some pics maybe get a project report on the go, mind you im kinda lost with the modern renaults being so different to the old stuff im used to, part of the learning curve i reckon and i look forward to it

Hello, I made it according to the manual I found on the other forum .I stripped the fan and cleaned the dust on the actual fan and I put a drop of oil on its axle. Once I put that fan together it was very quiet. If you still experience the noise it may be case itself which covers the fan/motor which I had problem, too. Before screwing it back I put some bolt washers made of two layers of rubber from bicycle inner tube to the turbine so it was sort of set on ‘’shock absorbers’’. Specific method known for silencing computer cases. Pads can be purchased ready-made in computer stores. If someone will do it alone from some rubber should not cut too big because the body cannot be closed. After these treatments on board of my Laguna is much, much quieter. Housing rattles little bit but you can barely hear it , but not like before. Some people also put some sponge type material around the fan before closing the case which also helps. I may be able to find some photos and share it with you later on.

Nice to see a member on the same island as myself - I'm up in Belfast.

Great colour, the V6 i was supposed to buy was that colour, I think it really suits the car.

Hi bncrew and welcome to the club Smile
That is one Pretty Laguna, love the colour. Looks like a real bargain, and i'm sure it will be a great car once you get the little jobs sorted.
I made a little "how to" on replacing window regulator cables which you might find of some help when fixing the non functioning one on your car.

link here....https://lagunaoc.forumotion.co.uk/t71-replacing-window-mechanism-cables-electric

All the best, jamie

In the past i've also owned a 12 tl, a 12 ts, a 20 tl, a 20 tx and an "81" 18 turbo with a few tweaks.....every one of them comfortable and fun Wink

nice, id love to see some pics, i have to say there are very few renaults i have not been a fan of, the upcoming clio i must admit is disappointing as is the fluence but look at their track record, and look at some of the features they were responsible for bringing to the motoring world

I had no problem with most the clio except the bog eye one, mind out the current incarnation of the clio is only a couple of inches shorter than the ph1 espace so its ruined the small car market side of things... heres my old clio, it was a bit of fun

I used to like them but now not my cup of tea. But I'm sure it was fun to drive each to there own I suppose like me with mk3 Astra's I still have soft spot for them Neutral. Some people on the forum used to say mine was the best looking one as I kept it near enough standard just added the odd few mods like lowering, alloys and other Vauxhall parts but certainly didn't put any bodykit on it I hate it unless it was standard like on a GSi etc.

this one was not fun to drive, 15 inch wheels made this non power steering car insanely heavy, the 1.2 engine was a serious depression session too, it was just bought as a temp measure but i ended up having a bit of fun with it, r19 cabby interior and the like, it was also a van conversion which was handy for bringing the dog places in
